Mormon Environmental Stewardship Alliance is pleased to organinize and host a symposium “Faith Is Action : Stewardship and the Climate Crisis”, presented by Latter-day Saints and for Latter-day Saints and all people of faith who share concern for the state of unbridled environmental degradation and our warming planet.
By revelation, God admonishes holding governments “accountable for their acts…both in making laws and administering them, for the good and safety of society” (Doctrine & Covenants 134:1). The pollutions causing climate change are doing enormous damage to the ecological systems that sustain life, and are disproportionately harming communities that are poor and disenfranchised.
President Gordon B. Hinckley urged members of our faith to, “stand strong, even to become a leader in speaking up in behalf of those causes which make our civilization shine and which give comfort and peace to our lives. You can be a leader. You must be a leader.”
Faith is not an idle word, and we hope the #FaithIsAction theme and program will inspire and equip participants to become better and stronger advocates for climate solutions in our own homes and neighborhoods, our wards or branches, our cities and our countries.
Speakers include Latter-day Saint political leaders, scientists, educators, reporters, advocates and others — individuals who are working at the front lines of climate solutions, advocacy and action internationally and locally — who will guide discussion and explore this subject from the perspectives of faith, science, ethics and public policy. The event will be entirely online, so you can participate from wherever you are. The symposium is free to attend, though your tax-deductible donation to MESA through our website MESAstewardship.org is welcomed, and supports this and other ongoing programs and initiatives.
