UCAN Work Group and Collaboration

The Utah Climate Action Network (UCAN) exists to facilitate collaborations between its members throughout Utah on climate change science, impacts, and solutions. Some of these collaborations are formal while others are on an as needed basis. Below is a list of existing collaborations and work groups being facilitated by UCAN.

  • Climate & Health

This group has a monthly meeting to discuss climate change and its impacts on public health. The group has subcommittees involved in: sustainability, adaptation/resiliency planning, education & outreach, and the annual Climate & Health Symposium. Dr. Royal DeLegge of the Salt Lake County Health Department leads this group. Contact Dr. DeLegge at rdelegge@slco.org if you would like to learn more.

  • Education & Outreach

The Education & Outreach Committee supports project achievements and successful growth of the Network by facilitating community resource development, education, and civic engagement to effectively address the challenges climate change poses to our human environment. The committee provides resources for factual, relevant, and regional information as well as media outreach on climate impacts. Please contact Stan Holmes at stholmes3@xmission.com for more details and information.

  • Energy & Equity

This is an informal collaboration among UCAN members to ensure that climate solutions, especially energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, serve all communities in Utah. Social equity considered in scope include solutions that extend to racially, ethnically, and income-diverse communities. Contact Shelby Stults at shelby@utahcleanenergy.org if you would like to learn more.

  • Electrified Transportation

UCAN members regularly work together to promote an understanding of ways to reduce emissions in transportation by electrifying passenger and public transit vehicles. Members have worked together on ways to increase availability of both public and privately-owned electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Contact Josh Craft of Utah Clean Energy at josh@utahcleanenergy.org if you want to learn more.

  • Utah Climate Week Planning

All members of UCAN participate in the planning of Utah Climate Week, our annual fall week of events and activities focused on raising awareness about the risks of climate change and local climate action opportunities. Our Climate Week Steering Committee will be meeting to organize and confirm events. If you would like to serve on the Steering Committee or would like to discuss/share an event that aligns with Climate Week, please contact Jeff Bousson at Utah Clean Energy at jeff@utahcleanenergy.org.

If you want to learn more about any of these activities, or UCAN in general, please send a note to Jeff Bousson at jeff@utahcleanenergy.org
